Gastrain Wins Contract to Supply Santos Wellhead Compression Packages

Drivetrain recently announced its key strategic business unit, Gastrain Power and Compression, has won an order to supply Santos, Australia’s preeminent gas producer, with three wellhead compression packages for operations at its Cooper Basin gas site. Gastrain has been working closely with Santos for some time to customise its compression solutions to conform to Australian standards and customer requirements.

The contract signals Gastrain’s first sale of capital equipment into the gas compression arena. “This is a major milestone in execution for our Gastrain compression business unit, importantly with the preeminent gas producer in the Australasian region, Santos.” Drivetrain’s General Manager – Power and Compression, David Bentley said.

The compressors will be used to extract Natural Gas from the gas wells in the Cooper Basin. They will raise the pressure of the gas to feed into other compression equipment on the network, eventually delivering natural gas to consumers across the eastern and southern states. The machines will operate in a remote area so careful consideration of equipment selection and packaging details were undertaken to reduce operator intervention and extend maintenance intervals.

Packaging of the compressors will occur in North America and shipped to Drivetrain’s North Rocks facility for final inspection prior to delivery, installation, and commissioning. Each wellhead compressor will be a CAT powered, oil flooded screw style unit based on a standard Sage design modified to Santos requirements.

“The compression package supply and installation project is expected to be completed by the end of FY14 and will be an important reference site for our Gastrain business,” Engenco Managing Director Ross Dunning said.
