Drivetrain Celebrates 35 Years of Powering Industry with Innovation and Expertise

Drivetrain proudly marks 35 years of delivering dependable, high-performance powertrain and power solutions across mining, defence, transport, rail, agriculture and energy industries. From humble beginnings in 1987 to a national presence today, our journey has been defined by innovation, growth—and most importantly, our people.

Drivetrain was founded in 1987 by Noel Brown in Smithfield, NSW, with a clear vision: to deliver expert support and reliable products to industries operating in tough conditions. It didn’t take long for that vision to gain momentum. By 1990, Drivetrain became an authorised distributor and repair agent for Dana, a partnership that would grow to span decades and regions.

Behind every milestone in our journey are the dedicated teams who brought it to life—engineers, field technicians, operations staff, customer service professionals, product support and business development teams. Their commitment to excellence, safety, and innovation is the true engine of our business.

From opening regional branches in Mt Isa (1993), Perth (1996), Brisbane (2001), and Newcastle (2008) to expanding internationally into the Philippines (1997), Singapore (1998), and New Zealand (2007), our people have been there every step of the way—building relationships, delivering expertise, and supporting customers from the ground up.

In 1997, Drivetrain was appointed the Dana Off-Highway Authorised Service Centre for Australia and New Zealand, a testament to our technical capabilities and trusted service model.

Our partnership with global brands has allowed us to bring industry-leading drivetrain components, power generation and compression solutions, and mining vehicles to the local Australian market—ensuring optimal reliability and performance.

Over the years, we’ve expanded through strategic acquisitions and partnerships. In 2002, we acquired the Dana Fluid Systems Group, bringing a major plant and assembly facility in Hallam into the Drivetrain fold. This move significantly expanded our rebuild and production capabilities.

Our portfolio has since grown to include global brand partnerships such as Williams Controls (2007), Kovatera (2018), Kynetic Driveshafts (2020), and Guascor Energy (2021)—each partnership adding new layers of capability to our service offering.

With facilities across Australia—including our more recent expansion into Kalgoorlie (2021) we’re strategically positioned to support customers wherever they operate. Our national footprint and field service strength means expert support is never far away.

In our power business, our technical expertise has developed beyond maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) to encompass high-value capabilities such as engineering, procurement and construction for power generation installations, project management, feasibility studies, fault finding, failure analysis and engine and component testing.

We’re proud to be the only authorised Dana Spicer Off-Highway Service Centre in Australia and New Zealand, delivering genuine parts, factory-standard rebuilds, and technical expertise that few others can match.

Safety, quality, and responsiveness are central to how we operate, whether in our state-of-the-art rebuild centres or remote customer sites. Our integrated management systems ensure that every service, every part, and every interaction meets the highest standards

Looking ahead, as we celebrate our 35th anniversary, we remain focused on the future. Drivetrain is investing in new technologies, expanded services, and sustainable solutions to support evolving customer needs. From customisable underground mining fleets to digital diagnostics and asset health analytics, the future is full of potential.

But no matter how far we progress, one thing stays constant—our people. We’ll continue to foster a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement, empowering our team to solve tomorrow’s challenges.

Thank You for 35 Incredible Years
