Drivetrain Embraces Community Spirit at the St Barbara’s Festival, Kalgoorlie

As proud members of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community, the team at Drivetrain was thrilled to participate in the annual St Barbara’s Festival, organised by the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce & Industry. This iconic event has become a cornerstone of the local calendar, attracting more than 10,000 spectators each year who line historic Hannan Street to celebrate the strength, unity, and heritage of the region’s mining community.

For our Kalgoorlie branch, this was a proud moment as we joined the festivities with two impressive Kovateras, meticulously decorated to be festival-ready. At St Barbara’s, the bigger the better—and there’s no such thing as too much tinsel! The team’s creativity, enthusiasm, and attention to detail were on full display, reflecting Drivetrain’s pride in being part of Kalgoorlie’s vibrant mining industry.

The festival opened with the Miners Memorial Service, a solemn and heartfelt ceremony honouring those who have lost their lives in the mining industry. Following this moment of reflection, the lively parade brought together community groups, emergency services, schools, local businesses, and massive mining equipment—symbolising respect for the past while looking optimistically toward the future.

The St Barbara’s Festival itself has a rich history. First held in 1999, the festival is named after Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners. Born in Nicomedia (modern-day Turkey) in 304 AD, Barbara was martyred for her Christian faith while protecting miners who had befriended her. Her courage, loyalty, and sacrifice led miners to adopt her as their patron saint—a lasting symbol of protection and strength for those who work underground.

For Drivetrain, participating in this celebration was about more than just a parade. It was an opportunity to connect with the community, celebrate shared values, and showcase company pride. Our team had an incredible time engaging with friends, families, and fellow industry members, and we are already looking forward to next year—bigger, brighter, and even more tinsel!

A special thank you to the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc., and to our own team—Brit Ferrolino, Adam Turner, Benjamin Wraight, Leigh Vanderwal, Shaun McCartney, Cooper Lewis—and their families for bringing energy, creativity, and community spirit to the day.
